A viral web application designed for students of the University of the Philippines system to calculate their General Weighted Average (GWA), verify Latin Honors eligibility, and share results.
Project Overview
The UP GWA Calculator was built to solve a common pain point for thousands of students across the University of the Philippines (UP) system: tracking academic progress and figuring out grade thresholds for Latin honors.
The web app offers a sleek, minimal, and highly interactive interface where students can input their subjects, grades, and unit weights. It handles the specific weighting rules of the UP system and instantly calculates overall GWA, semester GWA, and checks eligibility criteria for Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Summa Cum Laude.
To maximize utility and engagement, the app includes local import/export functionality via JSON (allowing students to save their records locally without database tracking) and a custom canvas generator that lets users download their GWA card pre-formatted for Instagram Stories. The app has achieved over 60,000+ page views.
